Siem Reap is the Jewl in Cambodias royal crown. Steeped in history, this city and region has so much to offer! Of course most people come to sien reap to visit the temples, and who could blame them? I spent 5 days exploring the megesric ruins and even that was not long enough. The city itself also has so much to offer, walking through the old French quarter you are reminded of the countries colonial past and it’s also too easy to forget it’s not so distant but much darker past. A visit to the land mine museum is a must! With so much to do and see, you need to find a great place, when I stayed here in 2011 I was able to get myself a 5* hotel (insert link) for $20 a night and I will be honest, this was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, th large swimming pool did help!! Exploring ruins all day in 30 degree height and 80%+ humidity does make you work up a sweat and the pool was a life saver.
Get the right time of year and you can find some real bargains in this city, most people who’d say avoid the wet season, I visited at the start of the wet reason, where the humidity was high but it was bare able. See some of my hotel picks below;
